Roaming on ST or Verizon pre-paid

Verizon IN Pulse/EasyPay - www.howardforums.com
Hello, all.

This is literally my 2nd post in this site, so please excuse me for my ignorance.

My wife and I previously used identical iPhone 5s' on AT&T post paid for many years, and about a year ago we switched to Straight Talk. Unfortunately, I live in a state (NE) with the highest wireless taxes in the country and I'm not willing to pay an additional 30% of my bill in taxes, fees, surcharges and "other charges" with post paid plans any more.

Due to an issue with my wife's new ST sim card, she remained on our AT&T post paid plan for a few days after I switched.

During that time we compared our service and found that there was a significant service degradation with ST. My ST phone always had less signal strength and my phone would often times have just 3G rather than 4G/LTE. Those issues came up in places where we had used 4G/LTE consistently for quite some time. Once my wife switched over, she too had the same issues.

I wasn't willing to accept the service degradation, so I bought a new Straight Talk iPhone that was compatible with Verizon's towers. That has worked better for the most part, but I've found that there are times when I can't get service in an area where there are others who use post paid Verizon who do get service.

I've heard previously, but have no way to confirm, that ST doesn't have access to every Verizon wireless tower. Does anyone know if that is true? I'm guessing that they have access to every native Verizon tower, but probably not the towers that a post paid Verizon plan user would have access to roam on.

I'm thinking about switching from ST to Verizon pre-paid because I've read on this forum that with Verizon pre-paid and VoLTE turned on that you will be able to roam (and maybe that's all I'm missing with currently having ST, or maybe it's also true that ST doesn't have access to all of Verizon's towers).

When you have access to roam, does that include voice/text/4G/LTE?

Also, how do you turn on VoLTE? Is that just the roaming options within the iPhone? Or is there literally a VoLTE option somewhere within the settings? I have not seen that specific setting, but it could be that ST disables that feature on the iPhone if they don't support it.
