Wipe cache when flashing kernel... why?

I see that the device encounter problems like bootloops if I don't wipe cache.

Why wiping cache is required when flashing a kernel on HOX? What's unique about this device (or the method using fastboot)? Maybe a state encoded in bootloader?

This step is not required on other devices such as Xperia P or Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
