If there's one class of spammers that really annoy me is the SEO spammer.
Lately I have been receiving emails with similar text but different senders - all of these claiming to be based in Napier and "100% New Zealand Owned company". All coming from the same mail server. Every single one have been reported to the DIA Anti-Spam service.
The text goes like this:
Hi, I came across-your contact over the-web and wanted to-share a brief note. I think a few-changes, aesthetically and/or SEO-wise, can make your site-convert more-visitors into leads-and also get it placed-higher in the organic search-results, for a few of the select terms.(Search-Engine-Optimization is the-process of affecting the visibility of a-website or a web-page in a search-engine's "natural" or un-paid "organic" search-results)
This is NOT like one-of those foreign-emails you probably get in your-inbox every day. Just to be-upfront, I have 3 agents that-work with me for Web-Development-&-SEO.
I would just-need to know-which (if not both) services-you're open to checking out-information about, either web-design or-SEO. Would you be-open to seeing more-brief info / quote for what-I would like to accomplish?

A few years back we were importing job listings on Geekzone Jobs from a service called jobs.co.nz (now gone). They had a brilliant domain name (couldn't get better than jobs.co.nz for this space) and decide to hire a Christchurch-based "SEO company".
A few weeks later I noticed a new user posting URL-drops in our forums with text like "Looking for jobs?" and so on. The user name was jobs.co.nz's CEO. I talked to him and he was horrified - he never registered on Geekzone.
What came to was basically this "SEO expert" hired a bunch of cheap Indian-based labour to improve backlinks to jobs.co.nz. In his parlance and misguided concept of backlink the quickest way of doing it was to go around spamming forums and blog comments.
Whenever I see a SEO consultant talking about backlinks I know something dodgy is going to happen.
I am pretty proud of the way Geekzone comes up in search engine results and how quickly Google indexes our pages. Every time a "SEO consultant" contacts me saying they want to help me convert more visitors to leads it instantly register that they have not even looked at Geekzone, otherwise they'd know we don't need "leads". We don't sell anything here, for goodness sakes.
Bunch of spammers, that's what they are.
There are "SEO Expers" and SEO experts. It's not easy to find a good one, one that actually knows what s/he is talking about.
My rant for the Sunday.
